Cassandra is a short HyperCard-inspired interactive piece made for the Neo Twiny Jam, Decker VN Jam, and pink decker jam, based on the eponymous mythological character.
With less than 500 words, I attempted to show the tragic fate of Cassandra, and her relationship with key people in her life. I've been fascinated by Greek mythology since forever, and the scenes around Cassandra were always somewhat frustrating to me. Here you have this highly competent and knowing woman, that is dismissed by all, at every turn (oh, how things have changed /s). It never felt fair, how she was treated, how she met her end.
Yet, the tragedy was fascinating: no matter what she did - all the right logical things - she could not stop events from happening. The war always happens, her people dies, her city burnt, and she taken away. I wondered if she had done something different, would it have changed anything? Personally, I don't think so. She'd still be dismissed, or ignored. Whatever she'd attempt would backfire. Her curse would not stop at her words.
This was also my first piece made with Decker, a HyperCard-like multimedia engine. I had it installed for at least a year, and played around with it. I didn't really vibe with it then, so it was promptly forgotten - save for the envy I'd feel every time I'd play a Decker game. It was a bit of a struggle, to be honest: Decker is extremely simple to use... if you understand the organisation of the tools. It's kind of a fascinating logical chaos - which is the opposite of what I like in an engine.
I don't think I'll add Decker to my regular engine rotation anytime soon, but it was a fun tiny tool to add to my toolbox, one I might explore in the future I think.
