The signs were all there...
A short rewind on a doomed relationship.
Intersigne is a short interactive story created for the Neo Twiny Jam, the Anti-Romance Jam, and the Nouvim3000. The writing plays with the definitions of the jam themes 'Intersigne' and 'Anti-Romance', using flashbacks to unveil the signs of a doomed relationship.
The premise of the game centered around the definition of 'Intersigne' (i.e. relation appearing between two simultaneous facts/event, one of which is considered as the sign of the other). It was also inspired by the (often doomed) relationships depicted in The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Kundera, 1984), Wuthering Heights (Brontë, 1847), Atonement (McEwan, 2001), Brief Encounter (David Lean,1945), and (500) Days of Summer ( Marc Webb, 2009).
Since I knew the story would be quite simple, having no complex mechanic to figure out or tracking information in variables, I decided to test out the basics of a then-new-to-me engine: INK. It worked out great at the end, as the basic coding logic was pretty easy to grasp. Thanks to this project introducing me to INK, I worked with the engine on multiple other games.
I like how the timeline winds backwards to the pivotal moment, and that detail at the end is a haunting culmination of all the strife you see in the couple's future... Tragic tale indeed.
